A Notre Dame error gave visiting Kelly the lead in the sixth inning in a SEMO Conference baseball game on Thursday, but a Kelly error in the seventh tied the game and helped lead to the winning run in the Bulldogs' 3-2 victory.
The game was a pitchers' duel, with both starters going the distance. Notre Dame's Jeremy Brinkmeyer allowed just one earned run on six hits to improve to 4-0.
Kelly's Caleb Daughetee allowed just one run over the first six innings before committing a throwing error in the seventh that led to two runs. After Daughetee hit Josh Beussink with a pitch to start the seventh -- Daughetee hit three in all, including Beussink with the bases loaded in the foruth -- Daughetee threw the ball away on a sacrifice bunt from Derek Ressel, allowing pinch runner Mitch Glueck to score from first.
Jacob Essner followed with a single down the third base line for the game-winning RBI.
Essner and Shane Menz each had two hits for Notre Dame, which improved to 6-5 overall and 3-2 in the SEMO Conference
"Our pitchers are doing tremendous," Notre Dame coach Jeff Graviett said. "If we're not going to hit, we're going to have to keep manufacturing runs to win those close ballgames."
Daughetee led Kelly's offense with three hits. Kendal Deason added two hits, including a double.
