The Southeast Missouri State baseball team lost its second straight game to North Dakota State University, 9-6 Saturday afternoon at Capaha Field.

NDSU, which handed the Redhawks their first loss of the season Friday, will go for the three-game series sweep at 1 p.m. today.

Southeast fell to 5-2 while the preseason Summit League favorite Bison improved to 3-2.

The Redhawks who trailed all the way during Friday's 7-2 setback, erased an early 2-1 deficit Saturday with a three-run fourth inning. The key hit was a two-RBI single by sophomore DH Ryan Barnes. Junior center fielder Cole Bieser added an RBI single.

NDSU came right back with a three-run fifth inning to take the lead for good.

Southeast, trailing 8-4, got a two-run homer from junior first baseman Matt Tellor in the seventh inning. It was the first Southeast home run for Tellor, a transfer from Lindenwood University.

The Redhawks, down 9-6, threatened in the bottom of the ninth with two runners on and two outs. But junior left fielder Derek Gibson lined out to shortstop to end things.

NDSU out-hit Southeast 16-12. The Bison got home runs from Kirk Kenneally, Wes Satziinger and Michael Leach. Jon Hechtner went 3 for 5.

Barnes, Bieser, Tellor and sophomore third baseman Andy Lennington all had two hits for Southeast.

True freshman left-hander Alex Winkelman (2-1) suffered the loss in relief.

He allowed two runs and three hits in 1 1/3 innings.

Senior lefty Zack Smith started. He gave up seven hits and four runs in four innings, with five strikeouts and four walks.

David Ernst notched the victory, allowing eight hits and four runs, three earned, in six innings. Kyle Kingsley struck out four over the final 1 2/3 innings for a save
