NMCC wrestling splits meet against Kennett and McCracken County

NEW MADRID, Mo — The New Madrid County Central wrestling team split a pair of meets with Kennett and McCracken County (Ky.) on Tuesday, Jan 24.

The Eagles defeated Kennett 39-36 and lost 49-25 to McCracken County.

“I thought we wrestled hard and smart,” said NMCC coach Jerry Winberry. “Some of our first-year guys are starting to figure some things out. just need to fix a couple of things for them to turn the corner. My older guys stepped up like they have all season, and Gavyn Colbert had a tough match against McCracken County. He wrestled a very smart match beating a top-ranked kid.”

NMCC returns to action on Jan. 28 at the Priory Invitational.

The team will also compete at the Brentwood Quad on Jan. 31 and Herculaneum Quad on Feb. 2.
