CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. — The Class 3 District Meet at Notre Dame High School on Saturday, May 4, was filled with unforgettable performances by New Madrid County Central and Kelly athletes, as they pushed themselves to new heights and distances.
NMCC's Ja'Kwon Jones proved unstoppable, demonstrating his versatility with wins in the high jump (6-00), long jump (21-01.25), and triple jump (42-10.25). Evan McClellan added victories in the 110 hurdles (15.08) and 300 hurdles (40.60).
NMCC's strong performances continued with its 800 relay team placing third (1:33.93), and Jacob Bennett earning a third-place finish in the triple jump (40-11).
For the NMCC girls, Amya Bills showcased her speed and athleticism, winning the 100 (12.26), 200 (25.79), and long jump (18-08.75).
Ivyanna Winters added a fourth-place finish in the 100 (13.20) and 200 (27.41), and a second-place finish in the 300 hurdles (49.21).
Kelly also had some excellent showing.
Zach Hileman placed second in the 400 (52.03), while Ethan Graham earned a second-place finish in the 110 hurdles with a time of 16.11, and Evan Shoaf did the same in the 300 hurdles with a time of 40.75.
Kelly's relay teams excelled, with the 400 relay taking second (43.93) and the 800 relay winning with a time of 1:32.04.
The 1,600 relay team also earned a runner-up finish (3:28.96).
Grady Hall soared to second in the high jump (5-10), and Grant Burleson added a second-place finish in the triple jump (41-00.50). Skyler Still dominated the javelin (165-11.25), with Landon Crisel taking second (150-00.75).
Blaire Riley led the Kelly girls, winning the javelin (128-05). Myah Herrion added a fourth-place finish in the shot put (33-06.75).
The Class 3 Sectional Meet will take place at Park Hills Central High School on Saturday, May 11.
