Eric Niswonger of Cape Girardeau won the Bassbusters of Southeast Missouri bass fishing tournament on June 12 at Lake of Egypt in Southern Illinois.

Niswonger reported catching more than 40 bass on his SUMO frog topwater bait and took his best five to the weigh in. He concentrated on the edges of grass mats from the main lake all the way into the pockets.

Mike Woods of Jackson took second using a Lunkerlure buzzbait over the tops of pre-emergent grass mats.

Tony Cooper of Cape Girardeau took big bass honors for a fish he caught on a Lunkerlure buzzbait.

The heavy rains had the grass fish very active and feeding.
