COLUMBIA, Mo. -- The Scott County Central boys basketball team won its record 18th state title with a 53-48 victory over Mid-Buchanan in the Class 2 championship on Saturday at Mizzou Arena.

It is the second Class 2 title for the Braves, who have won their other 16 in Class 1.

The Braves led for the entire first half. They scored the first six points of the game and led 36-26 at halftime.

However, SCC scored just two points in the third quarter, allowing the Dragons to make a 12-2 run and tie the game at 38 heading to the fourth.

Mid-Buchanan took its first and only lead of the game at 40-38 on a basket from Austin Scaggs 10 seconds into the fourth.

The Braves responded with an 8-2 run to take a 46-42 lead with 5 minutes, 1 second to play.

After Mid-Buchanan tied the game again, Javonta Daniel scored the final five points of the game, including a free throw to secure SCC's win.

Daniel, who missed much of the third after picking up his third foul late in the second and only played a total of 16 minutes, finished with 23 points on 11-of-13 shooting to lead the Braves.
