The Central boys soccer team suffered its first loss after 12 straight victories, dropping a 2-1 decision to Neuqua Valley of Naperville, Ill., on Friday night at the Quincy, Ill., Tournament.
The Tigers (12-2) had lost their season-opening game before rolling off a winning streak and earning a spot in the top 10 rankings of the Missouri Soccer Coaches Association.
Neuqua Valley, the 2003 Illinois Class AA (large schools) champion, scored two goals with the wind at its back in the first half and held on for the win. The second goal was scored less than 2 minutes before intermission.
For Central, Tyson Whiteside scored on a penalty kick 10 minutes into the second half.
Central plays 9:30 this morning in the consolation bracket of the tournament, which includes two eight-team tournaments. The Tigers will play again at 3:30 p.m.
Notre Dame jumped on host Kelly with four runs in the first inning and went on to a 12-4 victory in a battle of two final four teams from last year.
Miranda Schlosser pitched a complete game for Class 3 Notre Dame (22-2). She allowed five hits and three walks and struck out four.
Cortney Ostendorf and Erika Reinagel each had two hits for the Bulldogs.
Kalie Hughes suffered the loss for Kelly (16-10).
