The only player from Southeast Missouri to make any of the 1A-3A or 4A all-state teams, Vollink scored 18 goals and had seven assists during the 1996 season.

"Tom Doyle (Cape Girardeau Central coach) said he thought Matt was the best player in our area and I agree," said Notre Dame coach Brad Wittenborn. "He really had a great season for us and this is a nice honor for him."
