Notre Dame's hopes of a second straight trip to the state final four ended in a stirring district final loss to Class 4 runner-up Sikeston.

The Bulldogs still finished the season with a 22-4 record, along with a Southeast Missourian Christmas Tournament title. Alex Ressel, Notre Dame's 6-foot-3 senior center, was a big part of that success, leading the team in scoring at 15.5 points a game.

Ressel's final season netted him second-team all-state honors on the Class 4 and 5 Missouri Sportswriters and Sportscasters all-state teams, which were released today.

Ressel was Notre Dame's top scorer a year ago when the Bulldogs made their improbable run to the final four. In two final four games last year, Ressel averaged 15 points and 10.5 rebounds.

Ressel also earned first-team all-SEMO Conference honors this season as well as all-region honors.

Jackson senior Bobbie Jones, the SEMO Conference girls player of the year, earned Class 5 second-team all-state honors. Jones averaged 15.6 points per game for the district-champion Indians. Jackson finished 22-5 and fell to St. Joseph's Academy in the sectional round.

Notre Dame junior Kristain Burger earned second-team all-state honors among Class 4 girls. The post player averaged 15.2 points per game.

Burger also earned all-state honors in softball this season, leading the Bulldogs to a runner-up finish in Class 3.
