After watching a six-run lead vanish late in the game, the Notre Dame softball team kept its composure and came back for an 8-7 win over Poplar Bluff.
The Lady Bulldogs (6-3), cruising along with a 7-1 lead going into the top of the sixth, saw the Lady Mules rally for six runs to tie the score at 7-7.
Notre Dame's Ashley Reinagel singled sharply to drive home Stacey Schwartz with the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning. Schwartz had walked and advanced to second on a hit by Ramona Blankenship.
Blankenship led the Lady Dogs with three singles and two RBI, while Reinagel singled twice including the game winner.
Mika Williamson relieved Blankenship in the sixth inning with the Lady Bulldogs ahead by one run, bases loaded and no outs. She wiggled out of that jam, allowing just one more run to score before tossing a scoreless seventh to pick up the win.
"We showed a lot of character, which is a sign of a good team," said Notre Dame coach Chris Janet. "We gathered ourselves and battled back for the win."
Cape Central 15, Sikeston 0
SIKESTON -- Cape Central scored seven runs in the first inning and coasted to a three-inning victory.
Ashley Voerg led the offensive onslaught with three hits and three runs batted in. Lindsay Dement had a double and two RBIs, while Alex Wieser had two his and one RBI.
Megan McDonald picked up the win. She went three innings and allowed three hits and two walks while striking out five.
"The girls are really starting to hit the ball," said Central coach Amy Blattel. "We started hitting the ball well Saturday and we continued it tonight in the first inning. It's nice to see some of the girls who weren't hitting starting to come around."
Cape Central improved to 7-3.
Central's junior varsity defeated Sikeston 17-0 in three innings.
Perryville 5, De Soto 1
DE SOTO, Mo. -- The Lady Pirates improved to 4-1 behind the four-hit pitching of Amanda Roth.
Roth struck out three and walked five in going the distance.
Jenna Schuessler had two of Perryville's six hits. Stacey Baer added an RBI double.
Perryville took a 2-1 lead into the sixth, where it added a pair of runs. The lead grew to 5-1 in the seventh.
VOLLEYBALL
SEMO Conference tourney
SCOTT CITY, Mo. -- The Cape Central Lady Tigers (0-3) dropped both its matches as the SEMO Conference Tournament began.
Central lost to Scott City 15-3, 15-10; then dropped two matches to Jackson 15-4, 15-4.
Kendra Hinkebein had four aces for Jackson in the win while Erin Hartman had three. Jennifer Mesey had six kills in the match.
Jackson also split its match with Scott City, dropping the first set 15-17 before storming back for a 15-3 victory.
Mesey led the way with nine kills, five blocks and seven digs. Jenna Leet also had nine kills while Jessie Koepper had six kills and 14 assists.
In other action, Sikeston went 2-0 with a 15-11, 16-14 win over New Madrid and a 15-2, 15-4 sweep of Chaffee. New Madrid also beat Chaffee 15-9, 15-1.
VOLLEYBALL
Notre Dame 11-15-15
Bernie 15-8-11
Notre Dame posted an impressive home win over Bernie, a perennial volleyball power.
Lynn Obermiller led the Lady Bulldogs with 17 kills.
"She was awesome," said Notre Dame coach Helen Payne. "Jennifer VanGennip had 13 kills and she was really on too."
Katie Canfield provided 21 assists while Ashley Millham had nine. Ali Tyson and Libby Beussink each posted 11 service points as Notre Dame improved to 3-1-2 on the season.
"Everything was good tonight the serving, the setting and passing," Payne said. "Bernie is not as good as they've been in the past, but we played really well."
Notre Dame's junior varsity won 15-10, 15-1.
Woodland 15-15
Puxico 1-9
MARBLE HILL, Mo. -- Woodland picked up its first win of the season in straight sets over Puxico.
For Woodland (1-2-2), Emily Davis recorded 12 service winners, including eight aces. Teammates Kelly Reed had three kills, Danyel Farrell had five digs and Amanda Jordan had five digs and five assists.
Woodland's JV team won 15-13 and 16-14.

Oak Ridge 12-2
PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- St. Vincent remained undefeated with a straight set win over Oak Ridge. The Squaws improved to 2-0 for the season.
SOCCER
Jackson 3, Poplar Bluff 2
JACKSON, Mo. -- Jackson got a hat trick from Pat Kohm as it edged Poplar Bluff.
Kohm was assisted on his three goals by Matt Gordon, Michael Schuette and Greg Schwab.
Jackson led 3-1 after the first half and held on with a strong defensive effort in the second half.
The Indian JV squad lost 2-1 to the Mules.
Stewart Knowlan netted Jackson's lone tally on a penalty kick.

JACKSON, Mo. -- Jackson's girls tennis team defeated Sikeston to remain undefeated.

"We've got a group of really nice girls, but it's going to take some time," said Central coach Bud Craven. "We're rebuilding."
The Lady Tigers' junior varsity posted a 7-3 win.
