Notre Dame High's Class 1A-3A, District 1 semifinal soccer game against Eureka, originally scheduled for Thursday, was pushed to Friday because of rain.

The extra day didn't help the field much.

Leading 2-0 at halftime, second-seeded Notre Dame allowed three goals in the second half. Each to some degree came as a result of the condition of the field at St. Francis Borgia High School in Washington, Notre Dame coach Brad Wittenborn said.

Notre Dame lost 3-2 and finished the season with a 16-5-5 record.

"Our kids deserved better than to drive two hours and have to play in those conditions," Wittenborn said. "The field conditions were horrible."

In the first half, Notre Dame's Tommy Wencewicz scored on a rebound of his own shot, and Zach Miller scored on a pass from Oliver Sanders.

Ten minutes into the second half, Eureka, the No. 3 seed, scored on a penalty kick after a Eureka player and a Notre Dame player both slipped in the mud and Notre Dame was called for a foul.

Three minutes later, a ball near Notre Dame's goal was caught in the mud, and the Bulldogs were unable to clear it, which led to a Eureka goal.

Then with 20 minutes left, Notre Dame goalie Michael Gosche slipped when moving toward a shot, but was able to save it. He could not regain position to stop a second shot, however.
