Notre Dame High's boys soccer team claimed the SEMO Conference title Wednesday when the Bulldogs knocked off city rival Cape Girardeau Central 2-0."We're proud of that," Notre Dame coach Brad Wittenborn said. "And they're a young team. They've got a real good group of young players and they'll give us a handful in the next couple years."Notre Dame will open up district play Saturday as the top seed.Cape Central fell to 11-10-3.Notre Dame (10-5-4) won the junior varsity game 2-1.Adam Prasanphanich had a goal and an assist for Notre Dame, which also got a goal from Travis Siebert and an assist from Tyler Cuba.

Valle 7-9STE. GENEVIEVE -- Leopold captured the Class 1A, District 4 Tournament by easing past host Valle after overcoming a rugged test from St. Vincent in the semifinals.The top-seeded Lady Wildcats had their way with second-seeded Valle in the finals, but fourth-seeded St. Vincent really battled Leopold before falling 12-15, 17-15, 15-5. "I'm very proud of them," said Leopold coach Leanne Huffman, whose team is 23-5. "We played very good against Valle, but St. Vincent really played hard and we had a hard time getting going against them."Against Valle, Gwen Vandeven had six kills, followed by Emily Broshuis and Megan Kieth with four each. Sarah Gowen had 12 assists, three kills and four digs while Amy Stroder had five digs.Leopold will compete in Saturday's four-team 1A sectional at Poplar Bluff High School, taking on defending state champion Bernie in the first round.Woodland 15-16Puxico 3-14PIEDMONT -- In a match from Tuesday night, Woodland captured its second straight district title by prevailing in the Class 2A, District 3 Tournament.The top-seeded Lady Cardinals rallied from a 10-5 deficit in the second game as they improved to 23-5."It's great to win districts again. That was our goal," said Woodland coach Emily Johnson. "It was a real team effort."Sarah Booth had 10 kills and seven digs to lead the Lady Cardinals. Also contributing were Jessica Bollinger (6 kills, 4 digs); Lilo Whitener (4 kills, 4 blocks, 3 digs); Amanda Jordan (10 assists); Ashley Eaker (7 digs); and Julia Cutsinger (7 assists).Woodland now advances to the four-team 2A sectional Saturday at Notre Dame High School. The Lady Cardinals play Caruthersville at 3 p.m. in the first round.Bloomfield 15-15Scott City 9-13BLOOMFIELD -- Top-seeded Scott City fell in its bid for a district title as second-seeded and host Bloomfield prevailed in the championship match of the Class 2A, District 2 Tournament."I was pleased with the way we played overall," said Scott City coach Barbara Ice.Scott City, which ends the season at 10-12, was led in kills by Whitney Baer with six. Getting three each were Mindy Miller, Lindsay Baker and Rachel Spinks.

JR. HIGH BASKETBALLCentral 8th girls winCape Central's eighth grade girls picked up their first win of the season by beating Sikeston 33-23.Lacey Landgraf led the way with 14 point and Allie McGinty had 13. Central is now 1-4.
