SEDALIA -- Notre Dame's boys basketball team survived a long bus ride after a Friday night overtime loss and defeated Kennedy 54-46 in the Sedalia Sacred Heart Classic Saturday.

Trailing 20-18 after the first quarter, Notre Dame (7-14) outscored Kennedy 36-26 in the second half.

Notre Dame coach Chris Janet said his team returned to Notre Dame High School at 6 a.m. Saturday morning, hours after a tough 58-57 loss to Fredericktown. The team then drove to Sedalia, located in central Missouri, driving straight to the gymnasium.

"We got off the bus and were real sluggish the first half, which was understandable," said Janet. "The second half the kids just decided they weren't going to lose. I was proud of them. They played real hard and scrappy. They really got after it."

By the end of the third quarter, Notre Dame had turned the two-point halftime deficit into a 34-30 lead. They then outscored Kennedy 20-16 in the final period.

Zach Miller paced the Bulldogs with 16 points. He was followed by Michael Wehner 13, and Jason Rubel 10.
