Dan Buerck and the Notre Dame golf team had a record-setting day Thursday during a triangular win over Cape Central and Poplar Bluff at the Cape Girardeau Country Club.

Buerck shot a 2-under par 33 to shatter the nine-hole school record of 36 set by Scott Roe three years ago. Buerck's score helped Notre Dame shoot a four-player total of 158, which was also a new school record. The old record was 162, also set in 1994.

"Dan was just on," said Notre Dame coach Chris Janet. "He was doing everything well and was in a zone from start to finish."

Other Notre Dame golfers contributing to the record-setting score were Matt Howard (40), Jonathan LeGrand (41), and Cliff Seratti (44).

"Obviously when you have a 33, that helps a lot," Janet said of the team record. "But everybody really contributed to the score."

The Bulldogs needed a record-breaking performance to top Central which fell only four strokes back with a score of 162.

Central was led by 39's from Dan Groesbeck and Bryan Welker. Dane McLaird shot a 40 and Mike Oslund carded a 44.

Poplar Bluff shot a 164, led by 40's from Josh McCarty and Chris Love.

Notre Dame and Central will both compete in the Sikeston Invitational Monday at the Sikeston Country Club.
