In their first home game under lights, the Notre Dame Lady Bulldogs suffered a blackout in the scoring column.

The Lady Bulldogs suffered a 4-0 loss to St. Louis-Notre Dame Tuesday night.

St. Louis-Notre Dame, which finished third in Class 1A-3A last year, led just 1-0 at halftime, but a fluke goal three minutes into the second half took the air out of the Lady Bulldogs (0-1).

"One of their players hit a cross (pass), but didn't hit it well and ended up scoring. She hit the top corner and that kind of broke us," said Notre Dame coach Jeff Worley. "You can't afford a bad break like that against a high caliber team like that.

"We were looking to be a bigger threat against them this year and we did give them a much better game than last year."

The Lady Bulldogs' junior varsity team suffered a 5-0 loss.

Perryville 2, Poplar Bluff 1

PERRYVILLE Laura Klaus and Brooke Winkler each scored a goal for Perryville as the Lady Pirates won their first game of the year.

Perryville goalkeeper Amanda Nuyt recorded four saves.

TRACK

Cape Central's boys and girls track teams started their seasons in impressive fashion with blowout wins over Sikeston.

On the boys' side, the Tigers won 86-48, while the girls posted a 98-35 victory.

The boys finished first in 15 of their 17 events, while the girls took first in 15 of their 16.

"I was really impressed with the kids' spirit and enthusiasm," said Central track coach Lawrence Brookins. "Beyond that, we've perhaps located and identified some kids in the lower grades who will be solid contributors for us. Some of our veterans also had some good opening events. Now we can establish some goals and talk more in detail about goal-setting."

Perhaps the best performance of the night came from Heather Jenkins, who tossed the shot put 39 feet, 5 inches.

"For the first meet and on a cool night that will get people's attention," said Brookins.

Dionna Webb, returning state champion in the long jump, won the long jump (16-4), the 100-meter run (:12.53), the 200 (:26.93) and was part of the 400 relay team which took first with a time of :53.19.

Demetrius Totton had a stellar night for the Tigers, taking first place in the 200 (:24.29), the 400 (:55.41), the triple jump (41-6) and the 400 relay (:46.84).

BOYS TENNIS

Cape Central 9, De Soto 0

DE SOTO Central got its season started impressively as the Tigers dropped just 12 games in the nine matches.

The Tigers went 12-3 in duals last year and, despite losing some top players and fielding a youthful squad, coach Bud Craven is optimistic about the season.

"We're young, but I think we'll do well," said Craven. "We'll be hard pressed to match last year's 12-3 record, but we're looking for a winning season."

Central plays its first home match today, against Mehlville.
