ST. LOUIS -- Lisa Millham scored a school-record 29 points as Notre Dame's girls basketball team overcame St. Joseph's Academy and its towering freshman center 60-57 Saturday.

Millham, a senior forward, sank seven 3-pointers for the second straight game, including five in the first half on just seven attempts.

"It was nice to see our seniors step up," said Notre Dame coach Jerry Grim.

Notre Dame (4-1) faced quite an obstacle in 6-foot-5 freshman Erin McCarthy.

"I've never seen a girl that big," said Grim. "And she was athletic."

McCarthy finished with 21 points, but was the only St. Joseph's player to finish in double figures.

Grim said his Lady Bulldogs held their own on the boards, although McCarthy got her fair share.

"Our kids kept their composure today," he added. "This is a very good St. Joe's team."

Ashley Millham, a junior guard, added 12 points for the Lady Bulldogs.

Notre Dame broke out to a 20-13 lead in the first quarter and took a 37-32 lead into halftime. St. Joseph's tied the game at 48 by the start of the fourth quarter. The Lady Bulldogs outscored the Angels 12-9 down the stretch.

Chaffee Tournament

CHAFFEE, Mo. -- Second-seeded Delta pounded No. 4 Sikeston 41-25 to claim the championship of the Chaffee Tournament.

Rebecca Below scored a game-high 18 points for the Lady Bobcats.

Delta (4-2) never allowed Sikeston to score more than seven points in any quarter. It led 18-14 at halftime and 27-18 going into the fourth quarter.

"I thought our players played very good team defense," said Delta coach Randy White. "Sikeston's got some big kids. We got good pressure on the basketball which made it tough for them to get it inside and our inside kids, Rebecca Below and Sarah Jo Cook, really did a good job."

Jen Medlin scored nine points to lead Sikeston.

In the third-place game, top-seeded Kelly knocked off third-seeded Scott City 49-44.

Kelly, which trailed most of the game, was led by Christy Kluesner's 15 points. Dana Essner scored 11.

Loren Groves poured in 29 points to lead Scott City. The next-highest total from a Scott City player was six.

No. 6 Oran defeated No. 5 Chaffee 55-44.

The Lady Eagles' Maria Eftink scored 22 points to lead Oran, while Ashley Dirnberger added 17. Dirnberger made 14 of her 17 free throws.
