Jackson junior Nadia Wasilewski committed to play Division I volleyball at Wichita State University.

Wasilewski said her official visit to the campus sold her on the program.

“The girls just work so hard,” Wasilewski said. “That’s what I was looking for in a program. I want to be a part of a program where they are hardcore. There was no question in my mind that Wichita State is where I wanted to go.”

The recruitment process is different for all athletes that go through it and Wasilewski said it was stressful but rewarding.

“Something I learned was to be on your own timeline and don’t be in a rush,” Wasilewski said. “If you don’t enjoy it and let it stress you out, it’s not going to be fun. I think I learned a lot from the process.”

The opportunity to play at the next level is something that Wasilewki doesn’t take lightly.

“I’m really excited,” Wasilewski said. “I’m really proud of myself because not a lot of girls get the opportunity to play at the next level and I think it does a lot for the community of Jackson because we aren’t a huge town.”

Wasilewski was able to get her commitment out of the way before she begins her senior season in August.

“I feel like there’s no more pressure,” Wasilewski said. “I can play without being worried about making errors. I feel like senior season is going to be really fun and I’m really excited for it.”

The Indians are coming off a season where they went 31-5-4 and Wasilewski thinks they can be even better this season.

“I really think we’re going to have a good season,” Wasilewski said. “I feel like we can accomplish a lot at the level we play at and I’m really excited.”

Wasilewski and the Indians are set to begin the 2023 season at 12:30 p.m. on Aug. 26 when they travel to take on Incarnate Word Academy in St. Louis.
