The weather was nice and sunny Monday morning as the Poplar Bluff Mules boys golf team hosted its own Poplar Bluff Invitational at Westwood Hills Country Club.

Out of 14 teams, the Mules took first place, while Jackson and Farmington High snagged second and third. Dexter finished fourth, while the Mules junior varsity squad and Notre Dame placed fifth and sixth, respectivly.

Poplar Bluff junior Lawson Barks finished with the best overall score, a 3-under-par 68. Other medal winners include Corban Thomas with 73, Caiden Luke with 74 and Andrew Miller and Cameron Jackson with 80.

The Mules will be back on the course Wednesday for the Laker Invitational at Lake Valley Golf Club in Camdenton.

BASEBALL

Poplar Bluff 11, Kelly 1

At Benton, the Mules scored 10 runs over the third, fourth and fifth innings to break open a close game and get back to .500 for the season.

Poplar Bluff (6-6) trailed the host Hawks 1-0 after two innings, but scored twice in the top of the third inning, three in the top of the fourth and five in the fifth to take command of the game.

Five Mules — Kolby Greenwall, Kayson King, Bryce Dobbs, David Durbin and winning pitcher Dylan Bratcher — each had two hits, while Bratcher drove in four runs and Greenwall hit a solo home run.

The Mules host SEMO Conference rival Notre Dame Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
