The Poplar Bluff Mules are headed to the Class 2 District 1 championship after landing a 5-3 win over Mehlville on Tuesday at Poplar Bluff High School. The Mules took a 2-1 lead in doubles as Tavian Towns and Kurt Rosson defeated their opponents 9-7, William Sherrill and Beau McCormack won 8-6.

“I’m just happy and excited that the Mules are going to the district championship,” head coach Michael Sowatzke said. “We had a lot of close matches. Mehlville is a great team, and they showed great sportsmanship. We look forward to a chance to compete for a shot to go to state.”

The Mules are scheduled to hit the road on Wednesday to take on Notre Dame in the district championship.
