COLUMBIA, Mo. — The Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) ruled standout athlete PJ Farmer eligible to compete for Sikeston High School Athletics during a hearing in Columbia, Missouri on Wednesday, September 6.
“I’m overcome with joy and quite thankful that this process is behind us,” Farmer said. “I’m more than grateful for the support I had and currently have, and I can’t wait for the season to kick off.”
With Farmer’s eligibility confirmed, the Bulldogs are poised to benefit from the exceptional talents of the junior basketball star, who has already garnered offers from prestigious institutions such as Missouri, Ole Miss, Saint Louis, Northwestern State, Louisiana-Monroe and UMKC.
Farmer has demonstrated his exceptional skills at Charleston High School for the past two seasons, where he earned notable accolades. As a sophomore, he averaged a team-high 17.8 points, along with 5.4 rebounds, 4.2 steals, and 2.7 assists per game.
In his freshman season, Farmer contributed 14.3 points per game and helped lead the Bluejays to the Class 3 State Championship.
In each of the past two seasons, Farmer earned All-State and All-Semo Conference honors, as well as being named a finalist for the male basketball player of the year at the Semoball Awards.
The ruling brings anticipation for Farmer’s impactful contributions not only on the basketball court but also on the soccer field.
“Like basketball, soccer is a very physical sport which consists of running, jumping, and quick decision making,” Farmer said. “To say I’m excited would be an understatement.”
Charleston challenged Farmer’s eligibility, alleging that his transfer was primarily motivated by athletic reasons. Despite the ruling in favor of Farmer, Charleston retains the option to appeal the decision.
Farmer will make his debut for the Bulldogs’ soccer team against Saxony Lutheran in the Hannibal Pirate Tournament on Friday, September 9.
