The Jackson Indians fell to Cor Jesu in three sets (25-16, 25-23, 25-21) on Monday, Sept. 18, in Jackson, Mo. Katy St. John led the Indians with 10 kills, followed by nine from Nadia Wasilewski and seven from Ella Domian. Holland Guilliams led the Indians with 10 digs and Ava Wessell had 10 assists. The Indians (8-3) return to host Sikeston on Tuesday.
__Cape Central 3, Scott City 0__
Cape Central volleyball (6-6-1) defeated Scott City (4-5-2) in a three-set sweep, winning sets at 30-28, 25-18 and 25-16 on the road.
Sydney Miller led the Tigers in kills with 10, followed by Nalaiya Furlow (9) and Piper Underwood (6). Avery Criblez led offensive production with 17 assists, with another 10 digs to boot. Ella Hukel led the Tigers in digs with 12 with Madison Phelps following close behind at 10, while both Miller and Furlow notched two blocks.
For the Rams, Maggie Jones finished with a team-high eight kills, followed by Alyssa Dirden and Makenna Gentry at seven each. Ramsey Spinks dished out 31 assists in the loss, while freshman Layla Estes showed out on defense with 15 digs.
Cape Central next hosts Woodland at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, while Scott City next travels to play at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday at Oran (1-6).
__GOLF: Jackson triumphs in tournament__
Jackson golf defeated Notre Dame, Farmington, and Poplar Bluff at Ozark Ridge on Monday, Sept. 18. Alana Gilbert led the Indians with a 35, followed by Julia Schlitt with a 37, Harper Ready (40), Maddie Thrower (43), Grace Hightower (44), and Layla Pobst (49). Grayson Maurer led Notre Dame to a second-place finish (180) by placing fourth with a score of 40.
__TENNIS: Jackson tennis dominant in home win against Dexter__
Jackson (10-7-1) throttled the Dexter Bearcats (4-9) for its third consecutive win. The Indians won all but one singles match and swept the doubles courts to take an 8-1 win.
Bailey Rees, Ella Montgomery, Ava Nipper, Melanie Nugent and Tessa Quade took singles wins for the Indians while Caroline Selzer bounced back with Nipper to win a doubles match, with the pairings of Rees/Nugent and Montgomery/Gracyn Cox completing the doubles sweep.
Dexter ace Katarrah Churchill earned the sole win of the day for the Bearcats, downing Selzer in a battle of the teams’ aces.
Jackson next travels to play at 4 p.m. on Wednesday at Mehlville, while Dexter hosts Notre Dame at 4 p.m. on Tuesday.
__Saxony Lutheran 6, Farmington 3__
Saxony Lutheran tennis (11-3) got back to winning ways in a 6-3 home victory against Farmington (3-6) on Monday.
The Crusaders dominated the singles courts with Maggie Hillin, Abby Haley, Evie Caruso, Addie Thomason and Katya Rust all taking victories individually. As for the doubles pairings, the lone duo of Hillin and Haley took a win as the 8-3 finish marked the only doubles victory for Saxony Lutheran.
The Crusaders next play at 4 p.m. on Tuesday against Windsor in Imperial, Mo.
__SOCCER: Jackson falls to Lindbergh 4-0__
The Jackson Indians fell to Lindbergh 4-0 on Monday, Sept. 18, in Jackson. Jackson drops to 5-1 on the season and will travel to Perryville on Thursday at 6:30 p.m.
__SOFTBALL: Jackson blanks Northwest__
Ashlyn Dawes threw a complete game shutout to lead the Jackson Indians to a 5-0 win over Northwest on Monday, Sept. 18 at Northwest High School. Jaylie Walther hit two doubles and drove in three runs to lead the Indians at the plate. Zoe Flath also hit an RBI double and Miley Conklin hit a solo home run. The Indians travel to Poplar Bluff to take on the Mules on Tuesday.
__Saxony Lutheran 5, Neelyville 2__
Maddie Preusser hit a walk-off three-run home run in the bottom of the seventh inning to lead Saxony Lutheran to a 5-2 win over Neelyville on Monday, Sept. 18, in Jackson, Mo. Preusser led the Crusaders at the plate by going 3-for-3 with four RBIs. Lilly Roth threw a complete game for the Crusaders, allowing two runs on three hits with two strikeouts. Saxony Lutheran hosts Chaffee on Tuesday.
__Chaffee 11, East Carter 1__
Chaffee (12-3) jumped on East Carter (6-4) early, eventually cruising to an easy 11-1 victory against a rather talented Redbirds team, scoring four runs in the first two innings and bringing in another five in the fourth.
Ayne’ Held’s four-hit night led all players in the game, scoring three times while driving in two runs. Paizleigh Graham had just two hits but turned them into four RBIs. Starting pitcher Carlyanne Cossou finished with two hits and an RBI.
Cossou had another strong night on the mound, allowing just five hits and three walks while striking out 10 batters in the process. Earning just one run, the freshman continues to impress on both sides of the ball.
East Carter’s lone run came from sophomore Katelyn Nichols, who finished with a hit of her own. Ciara Duckett drove her in for the Redbirds’ only RBI.
Chaffee next plays at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday at Saxony Lutheran (4-6), while East Carter hosts Van Buren (2-6) at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
__Fredericktown 13, Perryville 3__
Perryville (2-14) couldn’t keep the pace with Fredericktown (10-1) on Monday, scoring thrice but losing big in a 13-3 loss at home.
While the Pirates put up three runs against the Blackcats, one of the strongest softball teams in the area, they couldn’t keep Fredericktown off the board.
Perryville next travels to play at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday at North County (2-8).
