Scott City (4-3-2) got back to its winning ways on Monday night as the volleyball team defeated Kennett (4-3-4) in four sets, winning 3-1 (16-25, 25-13, 25-11, 25-19) after dropping the first set then rebounding for three consecutive set wins at home.
Maggie Jones’ 14 kills led the Rams offensively, with Alyssa Dirden and Addison Hillman both putting in eight more kills. Ramsey Spinks set the table with 33 assists on Monday to lead the team.
Hattie Jones (10), Gracie Karrenbrock (7), Dirden (6) and Hillman (4) all put up high dig numbers defensively, while Layla Estes’ six aces led the team.
Scott City next hosts Bernie, playing at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
__GIRLS GOLF: Notre Dame takes first in Ste Genevieve__
The Bulldogs took first place in the 3rd annual Ste Genevieve Invitational on Monday with a low team score of 324. They were just three strokes ahead of last year’s champion Westminster.
All four Notre Dame golfers medaled in the 11-team tournament, led by Grayson Maurer in 3rd with a 77, Eliza Barnette 4th with 81, Silvia Schallberger 5th with 82 and Isabella Palmer in 8th.
Other local teams included Cape Central, led by Harper McClard with an 89 and a 411 team score for the Tigers. Jackson JV finished in 4th with a 379.
Notre Dame travels to Carbondale Wednesday to defend their title at the Terrier 2 Woman Challenge.
__GIRLS TENNIS: Notre Dame edges Jackson on the road__
Notre Dame (6-1-1) upped its win streak to five on Monday, downing Jackson (7-7-1) by a score of 5-4, winning four of six on the singles courts before grabbing the last doubles win necessary to secure the match win.
Vita Galati, Suna Mungee, Harper Raffety and Eloisa West all took singles wins for the Bulldogs, while the pairing of Galati and Mungee took the team's lone doubles win.
Ella Montgomery and Ava Nipper finished as the only Indians to win on the singles courts. However, the doubles pairing of Montgomery and Nipper, along with the pairing of Bailey Rees and Melanie Nugent, secured doubles wins for Jackson and nearly pushed the Indians to the match win.
Notre Dame next plays at 4 p.m. on Tuesday at Kennett, while Jackson next plays at 4 p.m. on Wednesday at Charleston (2-5).
__North County 7, Saxony Lutheran 2__
Saxony Lutheran (9-2) met its match on Monday, meeting the undefeated North County Raiders (7-0) at Southeast Missouri State University. The Crusaders fell to the visitors, 7-2, continuing a two-match losing slide for Saxony Lutheran after winning its first nine matches.
Abby Haley notched the only singles win of the day for the hosting Crusaders at 8-6, with North County taking five of six matchups. Haley’s pairing with Maggie Hillin saw Saxony Lutheran grab one more matchup win on the doubles courts before eventually taking the loss.
The Crusaders next host Dexter (4-6) at 4 p.m. on Tuesday.
__SOFTBALL: North County rallies back to defeat Chaffee in nine innings__
Chaffee (8-3) had the win in its back pocket but couldn’t finish the job on Monday, losing 3-2 in nine innings to the North County Raiders (2-6)
After a two-run seventh inning from North County tied the game at two-all, the Raiders scored the game-winning run in the ninth to steal the win.
Offensively, Reese Van Pelt and Bailey Robertson both finished with one hit and one RBI each, with Van Pelt adding another two walks to her line.
Starting pitcher Carlyanne Cossou got a hit in the loss as well, but her work on the mound stood out the most. Allowing nine hits, five walks and striking out 11 batters, Cossou didn’t earn a run across 9.0 innings of work but still held the loss at the end of the game.
Chaffee next hosts Twin Rivers (2-1), beginning play at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
__Kelly 15, Perryville 0__
Perryville fell to Kelly 15-0 and saw its record drop to 1-10 on the season.
Jenna Brewer and Madeline Gremaud each collected one hit for the Pirates, who host Herculaneum on Tuesday.
