The Hillsboro Hawks defeated the Cape Central Tigers 4-2 on Wednesday at Hillsboro High School.

The offense of the Tigers was led by freshman Jathan Spain who went 2-3 with an RBI, Spain also pitched five and a third innings for Cape and finished with four strikeouts and six walks. Sophomore Travis Klipfel came in for relief and finished with one strikeout.

The first run for the Tigers came in the top of the fourth inning when senior Morgan Diamond drew a walk that scored senior Carter Crosnoe. The second came from Spain’s RBI single in the fifth when sophomore Deklin Pittman was able to cross the plate.

Cape Central will play Herculaneum at home at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.

__St. Vincent 5, Jefferson (Festus) 3__

The St. Vincent Indians defeated the Jefferson (Festus) 5-3 on Wednesday at St. Vincent High School.

The offense of St. Vincent was led by sophomore Austin Sleyster who went 1-3 with an RBI double and came around to score once himself. On the mound for the Indians, sophomore Jacob Seabaugh went the full seven innings and finished with 3 strikeouts.

The first two runs for St. Vincent came in the bottom of the second with the RBI from Sleyster that scored freshman Tyler Hennemann and when senior Grant Abernathy hit and RBI single that scored Sleyster. The next three came in the bottom of the third inning when senior Liam Krauss hit an RBI single that scored junior Simon Barber, when Seabaugh sacrifice bunted in junior Christian Schaaf for a run and finally when senior Blake Monier hit a sacrifice fly that scored Krauss.

St. Vincent will travel to Chester (IL) at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
