Jackson senior Jason Meystedt has played his share of baseball games at Capaha Field during his high school days, ranging from American Legion games to SEMO Conference tournaments.
Meystedt will now call Capaha Field home after signing to play baseball for Southeast Missouri State University.
"I'm really looking forward to playing there," Meystedt said. "It's not too far. Hopefully I'll get some playing time and perform well.
"I'm really looking forward to seeing the talent level I have to bring myself up to. I'm really going to have to take it to the next level."
Meystedt had been looking at junior colleges such as Mineral Area College, Lewis and Clark and Meramec, but the lure of playing Division I baseball and playing close to home helped make the decision an easy one.
"My step-dad and family have seen a lot of baseball," Meystedt said. "It's fun having them around."
Southeast coach Mark Hogan said he's happy to sign a talented athlete like Meystedt, who could pitch or play the field for the Redhawks.
"He's a really good athlete, we're looking forward to exploring all the options for him," Hogan said.
