~ Norrid hit two homers and drove in seven runs for the Tigers in a 15-1 victory Saturday.
Kyle Norrid slugged two home runs and two doubles during a seven-RBI performance Saturday afternoon to lead the University of Memphis baseball team in a 15-1 trouncing of Southeast Missouri State.
The Redhawks, who fell behind on Norrid's solo home run in the bottom of the second, managed only a single run for the second straight day against the Tigers. Southeast had eight hits for the second straight day while Memphis, a 5-1 winner in Friday's series opener, had 15 hits Saturday and 29 in the series.
Southeast fell to 6-10 with its third straight loss.
Memphis improved to 11-6 and is just two wins shy of its victory total for the entire 2005 season.
Anthony Maupin (1-2) suffered the loss for Southeast. He allowed two runs in the second inning and pitched to four batters in the third without recording an out.
Maupin finished the day with six earned runs allowed in two innings. He allowed five hits and struck out one.
After Norrid, a junior third baseman, started his 4-for-4 day with the solo homer in the second, the Tigers tacked on another run in the inning with Michael Murray driving in Adam Amar, who had singled and moved to second on a throwing error, one of four on the day for Southeast.
In the third inning's four-run eruption, Memphis sent nine batters to the plate. After K.K. Chalmers drew a leadoff walk, Maupin hit two batters -- Will Peterson and Bill Moss -- to load the bases. Norrid then roped a double to the left-field corner to drive in two runs and end Maupin's day. Amar then delivered an RBI single against reliever Josh Parham, and Josh Irvin's sacrifice fly scored Norrid.
Norrid added a two-run homer in the fourth inning against Parmam, with both runs unearned. Chalmers and Moss had RBI doubles in the fifth inning, as the Tigers struck for two runs against Matt Carter to take a 10-0 lead.
Left-hander Neil Schenk picked up the win for Memphis, his first of the year and second of his career. He allowed two hits over six innings and struck out three.
Chris Gibson drove in Omar Padilla in the top of the eighth inning for Southeast's only run.
Freshman first baseman Aaron Rave had two hits for the second straight day to lead the Redhawks' offense.
The Redhawks are scheduled to begin a three-game set 2 p.m. Monday at Capaha Park against Missouri State. The series continues with 1 p.m. games Tuesday and Wednesday.
