Meadow Heights rips East Carter

Dustin Hubler poured in 18 points and Derrick Wilfong added 12 to lead the Meadow Heights boys basketball team to a season-opening victory Saturday.

The Panthers opened a 12-point lead after the first quarter and cruised past East Carter 81-36 in their Current River Challenge game.

Luke Nitsch and Nick Webb both added 10 points in the win.

In other action at the tournament in Van Buren, Zalma fell to Winona 72-54.

The Bulldogs got 25 points from sophomore Justin Stotts, while Stephen Simmers chipped in 18.

Kevin Walker and Nick Smith led Zalma (1-1) with eight rebounds apiece.
