It has been a big season thus far for Aiden McMinn.
McMinn’s successful campaign continued on Thursday as he netted a pair of goals in Jackson’s 3-0 win over Saxony Lutheran High School.
McMinn capitalized for the first goal of the game as he gained just a sliver of space from the Crusaders.
“I got the touch on the inside of my left foot and then saw space out to the right,” McMinn said. “I touched it out right and then hit it bottom left corner which is where I was aiming.”
The second tally of the evening for McMinn came early in the second half as the Jackson lead grew to 2-0.
“We love to get the ball up to our strikers,” McMinn said. “I’m more of like a target player so they can play me through and I can either hold the ball or I can play it out wide and they switch it in. That’s usually our game plan going into games like this.”
Being on the attack is something that McMinn is no stranger to.
“I’ve always been attacking minded,” McMinn said. “I’ve been playing striker since I was four years old so it’s very natural for me.”
The 2023 season has completely surpassed McMinn’s expectations.
“We’re 15-1 now,” McMinn said. “I don’t think anyone realized we do this good. But, we’re not gonna get cocky. We’re going to keep working hard and go into every game like it’s our last.”
Thursday’s win over the Crusaders marked the 10th straight win for the Indians.
“We want it bad this year,” McMinn said. “Before every game we get hyped and then we go out there.”
Jackson (15-1) puts its 10-game winning streak to the test at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 16, when they host Poplar Bluff.
“Poplar Bluff is a solid team,” McMinn said. “We’re going to go into that game with a positive mindset and try to get a win.”
