Maddux, Braves roll past Marlins 10-0

ATLANTA -- Greg Maddux pitched seven shutout innings and Gary Sheffield had three hits, helping the Atlanta Braves beat the Florida Marlins 10-0 Wednesday night.

The Braves (60-35), who have the best record in the major leagues, won their second straight after a three-game losing streak -- their first since mid-May. The Marlins have lost a season-high seven in a row.

Maddux (9-2), who hasn't lost in his past 15 starts, gave up six singles and threw just 85 pitches, but left in favor of Kevin Gryboski to start the eighth.

MONTREAL -- Mo Vaughn had an RBI single and Edgardo Alfonzo hit a two-run double to spark a five-run eighth inning as New York won its fourth straight.

Vladimir Guerrero went 4-for-5, homering in his first two at-bats. He raised his home-run total to 25 with his fifth multihomer game this season.

PITTSBURGH -- Pokey Reese drove in four runs with a two-run homer and a single, and Jimmy Anderson pitched Pittsburgh past Cincinnati.

NEW YORK -- Jason Giambi and Jorge Posada singled home runs in the ninth inning as the Yankees rallied past Tigers.

Andy Pettitte (4-3) pitched his second complete game of the season, allowing 11 hits.

Blue Jays 7, Orioles 1

TORONTO -- Roy Halladay pitched eight effective innings and Ken Huckaby hit an inside-the-park home run as Toronto beat Baltimore.

Vernon Wells hit a three-run homer and tied a career-high with four RBIs for the Blue Jays, who have won five of six.

Red Sox 6, Devil Rays 1

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Derek Lowe pitched two-hit ball for eight innings and Manny Ramirez homered for the second straight game, leading Boston over Tampa Bay.

Lowe, who pitched a no-hitter against Tampa Bay at Fenway Park on April 27, retired nine in a row before Randy Winn doubled. Aubrey Huff doubled two outs later to drive in the only run off the All-Star right-hander.

CLEVELAND -- Torii Hunter fired his own fastball back at Cleveland's Danys Baez after being drilled by a pitch, and Rick Reed won for the first time in eight starts as Minnesota beat the Indians.

ARLINGTON, Texas -- Bret Boone and Mike Cameron homered as Seattle beat Texas in Arlington for the eighth straight time.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Brent Mayne went 4-for-4 with four RBIs, and Kansas City beat Chicago to stretch their winning streak to six.

Mayne, who beat Texas 5-4 Tuesday with an 11th-inning homer, had a two-run single in the second and RBI singles in the fourth and sixth inning. He tied his career high for hits.--From wire reports
