Locke earns OVC weekly honor

Southeast Missouri State senior Christian Locke was selected as Ohio Valley Conference Co-Male Field Athlete of the Week following a first-place finish in the pole vault over the weekend, the conference announced Wednesday.

Locke shared the honor with Belmont thrower Del McSpadden.

Locke won the pole vault title with a height of 16 feet, 7 1/4 inches at the Purdue Fred Wilt Invitational.

It's his best vault of the season and 3 1/2 inches off his personal record that he set at the OVC Indoor Championships two years ago.

The mark is first in the conference so far this season and 72nd in the nation.

The Redhawks host the Redhawks Invitational on Friday at the Student Recreation Center-North with field events kicking things off at 4 p.m.
