The Poplar Bluff junior high boys soccer team won the NEA Junior High School League Championship last week in just the second season in program history.

Coaches Andrea Carroll and Mike Anderle said they are proud of their teams effort this season, especially taking down a familiar foe in the title game.

“We played the Jonesboro team twice during the regular season, both times ending in a tie,” they said. “When we found out we were playing them in the championship game we were excited for another chance to finally win. All of the boys played with determination, and because of that, they earned the trophy.”

The duo said their mission has always been to promote soccer in the community and the boys make the hard work worth it.

“Winning isn’t the main priority, but when the kids make it happen it certainly makes it more fun. These boys have created a great memory that they’ll be able to share for a long time. We are thankful for them, their parents, our sponsors, and the athletic and school administration.”

Drake Harden said he and the team understand the hard work that the coaches put in to make their season a success.

“It has been a fun and exciting season,” he said. We have dedicated players and amazing coaches. We are looking forward to bring our energy and commitment to the high school level next year.”

Rowan Gowen echoed his teammates senitment.

“I feel like we worked hard to communicate, open up the field, take the shots and defend our own goal,” he said. “We had strong leadership and coaches that held us accountable on and off the field. I’m proud of the way we played and the end results.”
