SILVIS, Ill. -- J.L. Lewis shot a second straight 6-under 65 Friday and held a two-stroke lead in the second round of the rain-soaked John Deere Classic.

Several groups were still on the course when play was suspended for the day. They will finish their second rounds Saturday morning and then the cut will be made for the final two rounds, followed by the third round.

Jonathan Byrd, the first-round co-leader with Lewis, bogeyed two holes on the back nine in a 67 that left him in second place at 10 under. Vijay Singh was another two strokes back in third after a 68.

Chris Riley (69) was at 7 under, tied for fourth with Paul Stankowski, who had a second-round 65.

Two-time Masters champion Bernhard Langer (65), Justin Leonard (67) and Kevin Sutherland (67) were all at 6-under 136.

European Tour

SAINT-NOM-LA-BRETECHE, France -- Retief Goosen shot a 6-under 65 and took a four-stroke lead after two rounds of the Lancome Trophy.

Goosen, who won at Saint Nom La Breteche Golf Club in 2000 and was the runner-up in 2001, moved to 14-under 128.

He holed a 96-yard approach for eagle at the par-4 5th, and then made three straight birdies.

Carlos Rodiles and Nicolas Colsaerts shot 66s and were tied for second.

Solheim Cup

LODDEKOPINGE, Sweden -- Europe held a 4 1/2-3 1/2 lead over the United States after the opening day of best-ball matches at the Solheim Cup.

Hall of Famers Beth Daniel and Juli Inkster gave the U.S. team the biggest win of the day, however, beating Europe's top tandem of Annika Sorenstam and Carin Koch 1-up.

Kelli Kuehne and Cristie Kerr beat Laura Davies and Catriona Matthew 2 and 1 and Michele Redman and Rosie Jones made five straight birdies down the stretch in a 2-up victory over Iben Tinning and Sophie Gustafson for the other U.S. team's wins.

Champions Tour

HUNT VALLEY, Md. -- Des Smyth, Larry Nelson and Jay Sigel had 5-under 67s to share the lead after the opening round of the Constellation Energy Classic.

Gary McCord and Ed Fiori were tied for fourth as only 15 of the 81 golfers broke par.

Defending champion J.C. Snead shot a 75, and Jim Thorpe's run of 18 straight rounds of par or better ended with a 1-over 73.
