Leopold takes Woodland Invitational title

The Leopold volleyball team captured the Woodland Invitational title with a two-game victory Friday night.

Abby Landewee, Kristen Thele and Mallory James all recorded five kills in the Wildcats' 25-16, 25-12 win against Advance.

Landewee added three blocks while Lauren Seiler put up 21 assists for Leopold (3-0).

Zalma rallied after dropping the first game to down the hosts 19-25, 25-17, 25-22 in the third-place match.

Kaitlyn McCormack had five kills and Courtney Davis added three for the Cardinals. Becky Brannon recorded 10 assists.

Meadow Heights dumped Saxony Lutheran 25-15, 21-25, 25-22 to win the consolation final.

SOFTBALL Notre Dame SoftballFest

Delta's Kendra Burnett pitched the Bobcats past Ste. Genevieve 10-2 in her team's opener.

But Kelly, which finished second in the state in Class 2 last year, roughed up Burnett in the second game as the Hawks won 7-0.

Burnett struck out four over three innings against Ste. Genevieve. Taylor Smith doubled while Taylor Keys went 2 for 5 with two RBIs in the win.

Danielle Dock earned the win in the Hawks' victory. She struck out 12 and allowed one hit. Ashley Glaus recorded Delta's (3-2) only hit of the game.

Emily Grojean doubled and Londyn Backfisch went 3 for 4 for Kelly.
