SIKESTON — The Sikeston girls’ soccer team lost a heartbreaker 1-0 to Farmington (3-5) at the Sports Complex on Monday, April 17, but it was still night of celebration and inspiration as the team honored some of the most promising young players in the community.
“The ladies played an amazing game,” said Sikeston coach Gabe Dement. “Defenders Olivia Gadberry, Kenzie Ogden, Alanna Jones, Maggie Drury, and Caroline Blanton played very organized and gritty defense while Hailey Presley made 12 saves in goal. We played a 4-5-1 and Landry Eason, Izzy Mitchell, and Kinsley Brandon all played new positions very well. We saw some great connections in the attacking third from Emilie Massey and Cate Schrumpf but couldn’t find the finishing touch. Farmington got the game winner with 11 seconds left on a deflected shot that snuck past Presley. The type of effort and trust we saw tonight will bode well in future matches.”
The Lady Bulldogs (2-10) will host North County (1-7) on Wednesday, April 19, and compete in the Marshfield Invitational this weekend.
Sikeston will face Fair Grove (1-12) on Friday, April, 21, and Stover with Cole Camp (3-4) and Marshfield (9-4) on Saturday, April 22.
