JACKSON, Mo. -- Cape Central (18-5) scored three unearned runs in the top of the sixth to edge the Lady Indians 3-2 Wednesday.
Jackson (10-14) got one in the second inning when Heidi Jansen led off with a single and Jenny Schlick, pinch-running for Jansen, scored on an RBI double by Wendy Blankenship.
The 1-0 score stood until the sixth when Jackson's defense betrayed them. A couple of errors allowed the Lady Tigers to load the bases prior to a bases clearing double by Jessica McDonald.
Jackson tightened the score in its half of the sixth as Lindsey Meyr singled, stole second and third, then crossed the plate on a sacrifice fly to make the final score 3-2.
"It was a big win for us to keep our momentum going into districts," said Cape Central coach Amy Blattel.
Holly Schnurbusch picked up the win allowing five hits, striking out four and walking none.
Hard-luck loser Ashley Schnell matched her opposing hurler as she allowed five hits, struck out two and walked none.
"We just beat ourselves in that one inning," said Jackson coach Becky Riney. "We know we can play with them. The next one (district) means everything. Maybe we can get them next time."
Notre Dame 10, Ste. Genevieve 3
The Lady Bulldogs' Mika Williamson turned in a stellar performance as she hurled a two hitter, allowed no earned runs and fanned 12 Lady Dragons at home.
Notre Dame (15-7) managed only five hits, but kept the ball in play and used its speed on the bases to set up scoring opportunities. The Lady Bulldogs had 13 stolen bases.
