CHARLESTON -- Fourth-seeded Cape Central defeated fifth-seeded New Madrid 55-33 in a first-round game in the Charleston Girls Invitational Tournament Monday night.
Katie Dougherty led the Lady Tigers with 16 points and teammate Kim Aslinger contributed 15.
Cape Central (13-5) will play top-seeded Jackson in a 7 p.m. semifinal on Thursday. Jackson (17-1) received a first-round bye.
Against New Madrid, the Lady Tigers took an 18-12 lead in the first quarter and led 28-18 at halftime. The lead grew to 38-22 by the start of the fourth quarter.
Scott City 90, East Prairie 19
SCOTT CITY -- Scott City bolted out to a 28-9 lead in the first quarter en route to a victory over East Prairie Monday night.
The Lady Rams held a 50-11 lead by halftime.
Amy O'Brien paced Scott City (11-5) with 22 points while Becca Gowin netted 16 and Jessica Schaefer notched 10.
Perryville 81, St. Pius 49
HILLSBORO -- Laura Ernst, a 5-foot-10 senior guard, hit a school-record eight 3-pointers in Perryville's win at St. Pius on Monday.
Ernst, who finished with 39 points, hit five 3s in the first half.
"(Laura) just had an outstanding night shooting the ball," said Perryville coach Vicki Lohmann.
Renee Kaempfe added 15 points for the Lady Pirates (15-5). Although she didn't score, April Watts distributed 14 assists.
Perryville held a 23-12 first-quarter advantage and led 49-29 at halftime. The Lady Pirates led 70-35 entering the fourth period.
Chaffee 83, Oran 35
ORAN -- Chaffee outscored Oran in every quarter en route to a comfortable road victory Monday night.
Chaffee (4-12) had four players finish in double figures. Kate Nolen led the charge with 18 points, followed by Brandi Foulk 16, Amy Burnett 13, and Jill Little 10.
Lindi Prindle netted 18 points for Oran (1-12).
Chaffee took a 19-10 lead into the second quarter and held a 36-19 lead by halftime.
Chaffee won the JV contest 47-25.
Festus 47, St. Vincent 45
FESTUS -- St. Vincent saw a fourth-quarter comeback fall two-point shorts in a road loss to Festus Monday night.
Festus, which received a game-high 20 points from Kara Geldmacher, took a 37-31 lead into the final eight minutes. St. Vincent outscored Festus 14-10 in the period, falling just short.
Fara Galati led St. Vincent (7-10) with 17 points.
Woodland 38, Clearwater 35
MARBLE HILL -- Woodland broke open a tied game with a three-point scoring edge in the fourth quarter Monday night.
With the score tied 30-30 at the start of the fourth quarter, the Lady Cardinals outscored Clearwater 8-5 over the final eight minutes.
For Woodland (5-8), Lindsey Allmon scored 13 points while Julia Cutsinger and Sarah Booth each netted 10.
Rachael Horn and Susan Davis each scored 10 for Clearwater.
Boys Basketball
Zalma Invitational
Zalma -- Marquand received 28 points from Travis Braswell and 16 points from Dusty Stephens in a 72-51 victory over Meadow Heights in a round-robin game in the Zalma Invitational.
Kevin Weaver scored 15 for Meadow Heights and Seth Revelle netted 12.
Marquand led 16-12 after one quarter and 32-21 at halftime. The Tigers extended their lead to 45-31 by the start of the fourth quarter.
In JV play, Meadow Heights won 53-33 over Leopold and Kelly's 9th grade team beat Zalma 46-45.
