JACKSON -- Cape Central's girls soccer team continued its best season in school history with its third straight Class 4A, District 1 title Thursday.

The Lady Tigers posted their third victory of the season over rival Jackson with a 2-0 shutout in the championship game.

Cape Central improved to 24-1-2 and advanced to Tuesday's sectional game against Ritenour.

"I was a little scared about this game," said Cape Central coach Tom Doyle. "It's hard to motivate the kids after they've already won two games. It's tough to beat a good team three times in a season."

Kim Aslinger helped alleviate some of Doyle's fears as she scored 11 minutes into the game off a pass from Corie Nunnally. The Lady Tigers nursed the 1-0 lead into the final two minutes of the game, surviving two Jackson shots off the crossbar and one off the post.

Amanda Hiler sealed the victory in the waning moments as she deposited a pass from Jennifer Daume.

"It's what I expected against Jackson," said Doyle. "We played hard, they played hard and both had good scoring chances. Both teams wanted it. We got the first goal which made it a little easier."

Cape Central goalie Heather Hey extended her school record for shutouts in a season to 16.

Jackson coach Bonnie Knowlan voiced pride in her team, which finished 15-8-2.

"We gave them a battle," said Knowlan. "My girls never quit and gave it everything they had. They created a lot of scoring opportunities. They came off the field with their heads up. I think they knew they played the best they could."
