JACKSON, Mo. — The Poplar Bluff Lady Mules soccer team picked up a pair of wins on Wednesday despite not playing two full matches that day.
First, the Lady Mules defeated Saxony Lutheran 2-0 in Wednesday’s regularly-scheduled match. Then, Poplar Bluff earned a second win by defeating Saxony 5-3 on penalty kicks in the conclusion of a match from the first week of the season that was suspended with the score tied at the Cape Central tournament.
“Tough to be a team twice in one night but we did,” Poplar Bluff coach Rusty Crafton said. “The girls played amazing and with a lot of heart.”
In the regular contest, the Lady Mules scored twice in the second half to come away with the victory.
Ireland Gowen fed a long in to Sam Ruiz for the tap-in goal to open the scoring, then Olivia Carda later scored on an assist from Mady Kordick.
Meanwhile, Poplar Bluff keeper Nevaeh Larkins was a perfect 10-for-10 on saves.
In the conclusion of the earlier contest, Carda, Kordick, Larkins, Savannah Hanner and Sydney Kramer all found the back of the net on penalty kicks. Larkins also had a block on Saxony’s second kicker.
The Lady Mules are back in action at Valley View in Jonesboro Thursday, then head to Jackson on Monday.
