The Poplar Bluff Lady Mules rebounded Monday after they were dealt back-to-back losses to start the season.
No. 9 Poplar Bluff took on No. 8 New Madrid County Central in the opening round of the SEMO Conference Tournament at NMCC and the Lady Mules took control and handled the host team with ease as they advanced 62-37.
First-year head coach Soley Dugas and her team had some bulletin material heading into the game as they knew they were viewed as underdogs with being the No. 9 seed but Dugas said they were up to the challenge.
Dugas was right as her team responded with its most points scored this year as the defense also held up with Poplar Bluff allowing its least amount of points on the year.
Poplar Bluff will play top-seeded Notre Dame at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
An upset over the Lady Bulldogs would put the Lady Mules at 6 p.m. Thursday with a loss giving Poplar Bluff its third game in three nights as they would take on the loser of No. 4 Cape Central and No. 5 Kennett at 6 p.m. Wednesday.
