Momentum is high for Poplar Bluff Lady Mules soccer team as the squad picks up a win right before the district tournament.
After seeing their winning streak of six games end Wednesday night, the Lady Mules bounced back with a shutout victory over Fredericktown 4-0.
Poplar Bluff coach Rusty Crafton said the Lady Mules didn’t have it together mentally after Wednesday’s loss, but knew they would get things back in order as they knew that districts were right around the corner.
With the rain injecting into the mix yet again, the Lady Mules got off to a slow but made solid plays for a shot at the goal line. Despite ending the first period with neither team on the scoreboard, the Lady Mules established a tone that a goal was coming.
Only a few minutes into the second half, sophomore Samantha Ruiz connected with a goal for the Lady Mules. Shortly after, Ireland Gowen secured a goal off the assist from Olivia Carda. Carda also connected on back-to-back goals from assists from Madyson Kordick to close out the regular season on a high note.
The Lady Mules will play Jackson Saturday at 12:45 p.m. in the first round of the Class 4 District 1 Tournament.
