Lady Indians fall to Raiders

JONESBORO, Ark. - The Kennett Lady Indians traveled here on a rainy Monday and returned home after suffering a defeat at the hands of the Nettleton Raiders 6-4.

The Raiders scored first in the second inning when catcher Kate Golden was hit by a pitch and a runner crossed home plate. Golden led the Raiders in RBIs, driving in four runs on one hit, including a sixth-inning double that scored three runs.

Bottom of the third found Raiders shortstop Hannah Marsico at bat. She knocked in one run on a single to increase Nettleton's lead to 2-0. Marsico was one-for-three on the day with the lone RBI and one strikeout at the plate.

Kennett scored a run in the fifth before the Raiders' bats went nuclear in the sixth and the team scored four runs, blanking the Lady Indians in the inning and stretching Nettleton's lead 6-1.

Pitcher and game winner Acelen Hart, Mekenzie Racy, Ramsey Crum, Sydney Huntsman, Golden and Marsico all posted hits for the Raiders.

Kennett rallied in the seventh and scored three runs, two on singles and one fielder's choice. But they weren't enough and the Raiders capped the game at 6-4.

The Lady Indians tallied seven hits to Nettleton's five Monday and were led by third baseman Handley McAtee and left fielder Lauren Barton, who both posted two hits. First baseman Hadley Wilson, catcher Emma Tinnin, and shortstop Kynsly McCaig all added one hit for the Tribe.

Wilson was one-for-four with one RBI at Nettleton; Tinnin was one-for-four; and McCaig went one-for-three.

Lady Indians second baseman Olivia Raspberry posted one run on one at bat and walked twice. Center fielder Lynnley Patterson scored one run on one at bat, walked once and struck out once.

McAtee relieved Kennett starter Avery Payne in the circle. Payne gave up one hit and two runs during her two-inning tenure, with no strikeouts and one walk before McAtee stepped in for four. She allowed four runs on four hits, struck out five Raiders and walked two.

McAtee went two-for-four Monday with one run, no RBIs, walks or strikeouts.

Barton went two-for-four as well and led the Tribe with two RBIs. She struck out once at the plate.

The Lady Indians are 19-8 on the season and were on the road again Tuesday to Jonesboro to play Valley View High School.
