CAMPBELL, Mo. - The Holcomb Lady Hornets showered the Lady Camels with more runs Thursday than thunderstorms showered the area with rain.
Holcomb softball head coach Matt Casper's Lady Hornets made quick work of Campbell head coach Richard Nixon's Lady Camels in a four-inning contest that found the Campbell squad bowing to Holcomb 16-1.
Holcomb catcher Ella Lemings, batting .476 went three-for-three, scored one run and knocked in three RBIs for the Lady Hornets while big sister, shortstop Maleigh Lemings, batting .651 went two-for-two, scored three runs and sent three teammates home.
The first inning belonged to the Lemings sisters, with Maleigh Lemings hitting a double scoring one and Ella hitting a single scoring one.
If the first inning belonged to the two sisters, the second and third innings were owned by the team. The Lady Hornets scored six runs on six hits in the top of the second inning and six runs on two hits in the top of the third.
If other teams bats are hot, Holcomb's are fire.
The Lady Hornets are blessed with six players batting .500 or more this season.
Center fielder Chloe Hendrix went three-for-four Thursday and drove in five runs. She scored two on a double in the second, singled in the third scoring one and singled in the fourth scoring two.
The Lady Hornets scored two runs in the first, six in the second and another six in the third before Campbell's Ava Bagett crossed home plate on a Hornets error.
Holcomb posted another two runs in the top of the fourth and that was all she wrote. The mercy rule was placed and the game ended after Holcomb's at bats in the top of the fourth.
The Lady Hornets increased the season record to 18-1 and the Camels fall to 2-9.
