BENTON, Mo. — The Kelly baseball team battled back to defeat Chaffee 4-2 on Monday, March 27.
Drew Kilipfel earned the win on the mound for the Hawks (3-1), throwing a complete game (7.0 IP) while allowing two earned runs on six hits with 14 strikeouts and no walked batters.
The Red Devils (2-1) took an early advantage when Leyton Hanback scored on a single from Carson Spies in the top of the second inning.
Michael Dollins doubled to score Ross Peters in the bottom of the third inning to tie it 1-1. Peters got on base with a bunt.
Chaffee regained the lead in the top of the fourth inning after Hanback scored on a double by Levi Crowe, but Kelly responded in the bottom of the inning when Klipfel singled to score Nicholas Christian.
The Hawks gained the lead for the first time later in the inning when Peters doubled to score Peyton Duncan.
Kelly added its final run when Duncan scored on an error in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Kelly travels to Saxony Lutheran (2-0) on Wednesday, March 28, and will play Delta (0-2) and Oak Ridge (1-0) on Saturday, April 1.
