Kline, La Russa say incident is old news

ST. LOUIS -- St. Louis Cardinals reliever Steve Kline, who made an obscene gesture and yelled toward the dugout Wednesday night, said Thursday he has not been fined and would move forward as if nothing had happened.

Both Kline and manager Tony La Russa insisted Kline's meltdown during the sixth inning of a 10-9 victory over the Chicago Cubs was old news. Kline, who said it'll probably be forgotten "a week from now," also angrily threw his jacket after warming up and then failing to get the call during the Cubs' six-run inning.

"What else do you want to talk about?" La Russa said. "It was OK yesterday."

La Russa said he had not see the videotape taken by a Chicago television station.

"I've heard enough about it, though," La Russa said. "So if we're going to talk some baseball, we'll talk baseball. I'm not getting into that B.S."

Kline, who has expressed some frustration about settling for a one-year contract this year and for his perception that his role has been downgraded, does not expect any repercussions. He has appeared in 35 games but only two since June 11.

"We're grown people," Kline said of his relationship with La Russa. "I don't think he'll hold grudges."
