KENNETT -- Kennett's Anton McKinney netted a 15-foot jump shot with one second left to play to defeat Jackson 49-47 Friday night in high school basketball action.
McKinney totaled 18 points to pace Kennett in scoring, followed by Noll Billings, who added 10.
"It was a tough game that came down to the wire," said Kennett coach Tim Turlington. "Anton was able to win it on a last-second shot."
Jackson's John Oehl led the Indians in scoring, notching 14 points. Brad Hilbert tossed in 11.
Kennett (4-3) jumped out to an 18-9 lead in the first quarter, but Jackson (3-2) came back by outscoring the Indians 18-7 in the second period for a 27-25 halftime lead. Jackson took a 36-30 lead into the fourth quarter. Kennett outscored Jackson 18-11 down the stretch.
Chaffee 64, Zalma 57
ZALMA -- Chaffee's Chase Eskew and Matt Stroup did the majority of the damage to Zalma with 22 and 21 points respectively.
No other Red Devil reached double figures as Chaffee (1-3) picked up its first win of the season.
Ronnie Moyt and Jason Means scored 15 points apiece for Zalma and Chris Canoy added 10.
"They crashed the boards hard," said Zalma coach Dwyght Ford. "They had close to 20 offensive rebounds and that killed us."
With the scored tied 29-29 at halftime, Chaffee opened up a 46-38 lead by the close of the third quarter.
Oran 84, Delta 74
DELTA -- Travis Friga netted 22 points as Oran improved to 4-2 on the season.
Adam Friga and Phillip Seyer each added 17 points for the Eagles.
Josh Altenthal scored a game-high 25 points in the losing effort while Troy Nussbaum tallied 19.
Oran opened up a 27-14 lead in the first quarter. Delta trimmed the deficit to 43-36 by halftime, but Oran outscored the Bobcats 41-37 in the second half.
"Oran got off to great start and we fought and clawed but could never get all the way back," said Delta coach Jim Gloth, who saw his team fall to 2-3.
Charleston 86, Caruthersville 47
CHARLESTON -- The Blue Jays erupted in the second quarter, outscoring Caruthersville 30-8 to roll on to an easy win.
Charleston was led in scoring by Howard Biles, who tossed in 20 points. Teammate Terrance Gillespie recorded 16, followed by Lezcano Dean with 13 and Jordy Mixon with 12.
The Blue Jays (4-3) never trailed and converted a halftime lead of 49-24 into a 39-point margin of victory.
Woodland 80, Fredericktown 70
MARBLE HILL -- Jason Greer hit six 3-pointers in scoring a game-high 28 points as Woodland used hot shooting to notch the win.
Woodland (4-3) had nine 3-pointers overall and hit on 21 of 28 free throws on the game.
"We hadn't been (shooting well) until tonight," said Woodland coach Jennings Wilkinson
C.W. Stacy added 16 points for the Cardinals while Ryan Bandermann scored 15 points and Chris Masters tallied 10.
Greer scored 18 of his points in the first half, which ended with Woodland leading 32-30. The Cardinals took a 47-40 lead into the fourth quarter.
Chris Woods paced Fredericktown with 18 points, followed by Justin Hall (17) and Clay Hendrix (11).
Kelly 94, Oak Ridge 64
OAK RIDGE -- Kelly and Oak Ridge each had five players in double figures, but the Hawks made the most of it and improved to 3-2.
Daniel Seyer led Kelly with 25 points, followed by Jamie Essner with 19 and Matt Seabaugh with 11.
For Oak Ridge, Duran Engler scored 17, followed by Ben Fadler with 16 and Clayton Ruesler with 13.
"They really took control inside on us," said Oak Ridge coach Paul Lynch. "Their size and depth caused us a lot of trouble tonight."
Perryville 65, Ste. Genevieve 54
PERRYVILLE -- The Pirates used a strong fourth quarter and won their first game under head coach Jeff Steffens.
With the game tied 42-42 entering the fourth quarter, Perryville (1-3) outscored Ste. Genevieve 23-12 over the final eight minutes.
Kyle Abernathy tallied a team-high 14 points for the Pirates while Ryan Wichern and Michael Downen each pitched in with 13.
Matt Miller scored 16 points for the Dragons.
"The kids played hard and put a complete game together," said Steffens. "We fouled them way too much. We're lucky they didn't hit their free throws."
Ste. Genevieve went to the line 34 times but made just 18 attempts.
Marquand 90, Meadow Heights 84
MARQUAND -- The Tigers had four players score in double figures.
Senior Dusty Homan led Marquand (3-3) with 21 points, and was helped out by Scott Emmett with 17 points and Doug Rehkop and Heath Stephens, who pitched in with 16 points each.
Cody Thompson had a big night, throwing down 33 points, including five 3-pointers, to lead the Panthers in scoring. Derek Collier added 13 points and Chris Burr finished with 10.
