A day after losing in eight innings to Notre Dame, Whitney Beggs threw a nine-inning perfect game and Kelly's softball team defeated host Poplar Bluff 2-0 on Tuesday.

Kelly's win marked the second time in a week that the Hawks (17-6) have ousted the Mules in extra innings.

Beggs struck out 11 to improve to 7-4 on the mound. She went to a 3-2 count on a batter just once the entire game.

Kelly's Jessica Burnett reached base in the ninth on a Poplar Bluff error, and Kelly Essner had an RBI single for the go-ahead run. Essner then scored on another Mule error.

Darla Mangles picked up her fourth win with a complete game at home.

Mangles allowed nine hits and struck out five. Trisha Kluesner led Jackson's 11-hit attack with a 3-for-4 performance. Leslie Palmer and Calie McCuan had two hits apiece for Jackson (9-14).

Kegan Orr and Sarah Benton both had two hits for Chaffee (6-6).

Despite outhitting St. Vincent 8-2, Delta suffered a home loss.

The Bobcat's downfall was 13 stranded runners, including the bases loaded on three occasions.

Sarah Cook, who gave up two unearned runs, was the hard-luck loser. She allowed two hits, struck out six and walked three.

Kacie Seabaugh, Jenny Dannenmueller and Shea Smith all went 2-for-4 for Delta (13-9).

Central swept Chaffee on the road. Kristen Shirrell had eight assists, and Jessica Johnston had five kills for the Tigers (4-15).

Notre Dame got off to a slow start but came away with a road win in three games.

Allison Essner had 10 kills and 13 assists for the Bulldogs (18-2-1). Laura Browne had 10 kills, Amber Karnes had five kills and 13 assists, Ashley Dix had 12 digs, and Lauren Mehner added nine digs.

Kaci Cooper had 13 kills, Alicia Reeves had 11 assists, Stephania Jordan had 10 digs and Angela Broshuis had eight kills for Advance (11-7-1).

Notre Dame's JV won 25-6, 25-10.

Jackson 25-25

North County 22-16

Rebecca Martin led Jackson with five kills in a home sweep.

The Indians (12-4-3) also got seven digs apiece Lucy Hartmann and Jody Gipson.

Jackson's JV (8-4-4) won 23-25, 25-19, 25-13.

Perryville 25-25

De Soto 13-20

Jodie Amschler had 10 service points and seven digs in a home win for Perryville.

Stephanie Landholt added seven kills and three blocks, Jen Ponder had three kills, and Lindsey Lappe had nine assists.

Perryville's JV won 25-10, 20-25, 25-22.

Bell City 25-25

Saxony Lutheran 6-12

Rachel Spears had 19 assists as Bell City won on the road.

Katie Niemcyzk added seven kills and five digs, and Andreia Wondel had six kills. Spears also had five kills for Bell City (15-5-1).

Bell City's JV won 25-6, 25-9.

Leopold 25-25

Meadow Heights 15-20

Amber Nenninger had 13 kills and five blocks to lead Leopold to a home victory. Rachel Crader had 18 assists, and Tanya Arnzen added eight kills and eight digs for the Wildcats (10-5).

Leopold's JV won in two games.

Woodland 25-25

Scott City 13-20

Lotte Cook had five kills and eight digs to lead Woodland (9-4) to a road win.

Chelsea McCormick added 13 digs and two kills, and Sasha Hutson had 10 digs and two kills.

Kacie Cartwright led Scott City (14-7) with eight kills and 10 digs. Ashton Phillips added 11 digs, and Lindsey Amick had 10 assists.

CROSS COUNTRY

Farmington Invitational

Jackson's girls finished second in the 12-team meet as runners completed a 3.1-mile course. Jackson's boys were fifth.

Rachel Schmidt and Ashley Meyr finished third and fourth, respectively for Jackson. Amanda Craven (13th) and Katie Grieshop (18th) were also medalists. David Welker led the boys in eighth.

Perryville's boys were second and the girls third.

Saxony Lutheran's boys placed fourth while the girls did not field a full team. Trey Maevers led Saxony by finishing 10th.

Oak Ridge's boys were eighth and the girls did not have a full squad, but Sam Zoellner finished 14th for the girls.

Delta's Kevin Bartels led the Bobcats with an 18th-place finish.

Cameron Keller scored Jackson's lone goal with two minutes left in regulation to send the game into overtime. The Indians (6-8) couldn't put away several scoring chances before Sikeston scored on a corner kick to win.

Jackson's JV won 2-0 behind a shutout by goalie Levi Lewis.

GIRLS TENNIS

Poplar Bluff 7, Jackson 2

Jessica Drum and Shannon Cobb were Jackson's only winners on the road as the Indians fell to 3-12.
