The Kelly High School cross country team comes off a positive start for the season into this weekend's meet.

Kelly will host a field of approximately 10 teams -- including Notre Dame, Saxony Lutheran and Advance -- in a meet that begins 9:30 a.m. Saturday.

The Hawks had five medalists last weekend at the season-opening Jackson Invitational.

Freshman Sarah Ruff made her high-school debut by running in the sophomore race, in which she finished fifth in 16 minutes 44 seconds over the 2.35-mile course. Kelly's sophomore girls team finished fourth.

The five other medalists ran in boys races: Michael Glastetter was 15th in the senior race (13:31); Russell Carroll was 14th (14:01) and Jordan Felter 15th (14:04) in junior boys; and Chris Cooper was 12th in the freshman race. The junior boys finished fourth.

Kelly also had a 1-2-3 finish in the junior high race from Levi Felter, Dalton Miller and Eric Turley.

Other top performers from the area -- in addition to wins by Central senior Jennifer Pancoast and junior Linnea Woldtvedt -- at the Jackson meet: Max Wieser of Saxony Lutheran was fourth in the freshman boys division, while Jackson's Sam Masters was fifth; Brandon Etzold of Saxony was second in the sophomore boys; Perryville's Jesse Kueker was fourth in junior boys, and Central's John Kipper was fifth.
