The Kelly girls basketball won its opening game at the Twin Rivers Christmas Tournament and remained unbeaten on the season.

Kelly defeated New Madrid County Central 67-50 on Saturday. The Hawks (6-0) next play at 5 p.m. Tuesday against Charleston in the quarterfinal round.

Jessica Burnett scored 18 points and Kelly Essner added 12 for the Hawks. Mindy Robert scored nine points for Kelly, which built a 41-19 lead by halftime.

Perryville fell to Lafayette at the Visitation tournament.

The Pirates (3-4) were led by Bethany Steffans, who scored 14 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Annette Weibrecht also scored in double figures with 10. Amber Hacker led the team defensively with four steals in the game.

Notre Dame postponed

Due to a scheduling snafu, Notre Dame's game at St. Louis Notre Dame was postponed.

The game has been rescheduled for Feb. 12.

BOYS SWIMMING Chaminade Quad

Central finished third in the Chaminade Quad meet in the St. Louis County suburb of Creve Coeur. Central had one first-place finisher.

Hunter Givens captured the 100-meter freestyle in 53.91 seconds.

Central also had four second-place showings.

Notre Dame finished fourth in the meet.
