Kelly, Chaffee and Scott City combined to advance 16 athletes to state -- the top two athletes in each event qualify -- at the Class 2A, District 1 track meet at the Abe Stuber Track Complex in Cape Girardeau Saturday.

Kelly's boys finished second among 13 teams with 95 points, 55 points behind Lutheran North of St. Louis. Chaffee finished fifth with 58 points, followed by Scott City with 51.

In girls action, Kelly took third in the 12-team field with 69 points behind Lutheran North with 154 and Grandview with 93.

Kelly's Nathen King took first in the 800 and second in the mile. Chaffee's Andy Obermann finished first in the shot put. In girls individual events, Kelly's Jenny Riley took first in the 1,600 and Dana Essner from Scott City placed first in the pole vault.

Class 3A, District 1

BONNE TERRE -- Perryville's boys and girls track teams advanced athletes in 13 events to next week's sectional meet at North County.

The boys, who placed fifth with 65 points, advanced in six events. Jared Tanz led the way with a first-place finish in the 800, winning in 2:02.

Ste. Genevieve won the boys competition with 102 points.

Perryville's girls placed fourth with 74 points and qualified for seven sectional events in the process. Perryville took two firsts in the field events as Amy Verseman won the shot put with a toss fo 36-5.5 and Becky Lankford captured the pole vault, clearing 7-6. Verseman's toss was a personal best.

Herculaneum won the girls competition with 133 points.

Notre Dame 5, St. John's 1

ST. LOUIS -- Emily Worley netted three goals as Notre Dame won its first district soccer game in the program's history, defeating St. Johns's in the opening round of the Class 1A-3A, District 1 tournament.

The victory sets up a showdown between Notre Dame teams in the semifinals. Notre Dame (13-10-2) will face top-seeded St. Louis Notre Dame Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.

"We came out really sharp," said Notre Dame coach Jeff Worley.

Emily Worley netted the first goal three minutes into the game off a pass from Katie Mehner, but St. John's deposited its only goal just two minutes later.

With five minutes left in the half Worley scored off another pass from Mehner to put Notre Dame ahead for good. Mehner scored in the closing moments of the half to boost the Lady Bulldogs to a 3-1 halftime advantage.

Jill Edwards and Worley scored the only goals of the second half. Kaitlyn Kelley, Michele Hency and Courtney Vickery all finished with one assist.

Perryville 5, Lutheran South 0

ST. LOUIS -- Amanda Schumer scored two goals and recorded two assists as the second-seeded Lady Pirates posted an easy win over No. 7 Lutheran South.

Brooke Winkler added a goal and an assist for Perryville, which upped its record to 17-3-2 on the year.

Amy Steffens and Stacy Baer each scored a goal apiece and Cindy Rhyne and Laura Klaus each had assists.

Jeni Blevins got the shutout in goal.

St. Pius 4, St. Vincent 0

ST. LOUIS -- St. Vincent ended its season at 8-9 after being shut out Saturday in the first round of the Class 1A-3A, District I tournament.

St. Pius, the No. 3 seed, owned a 2-0 lead at halftime over No. 6 St. Vincent.
