SIKESTON — In a tough game against a more experienced opponent, the youthful Scott County Central softball team fell 21-1 to Scott City on Monday, April 3.
The Bravettes (3-4) put up a valiant effort but ultimately were no match for the talented Lady Rams (5-3).
“We didn’t take advantage of the opportunities that were given to us,” said SCC coach Tim Carlisle. “Hats off to Scott City for playing a great game.”
Scott City wasted no time imposing its will and scored seven runs in the first inning. The Lady Rams added three runs in the second inning, three runs in the fourth inning and eight runs in the fifth inning.
The team’s top performers at the plate were Gracie Karrenbrock (4-for-4 with three RBIs and three runs), Mackenzie Lawless (3-for-4 with three RBIs and a run), Olivia Martin (2-for-3 with a RBI and a run) and Summer Wagner (2-for-2 with a RBI and a run).
Logan Schiwitz earned the win after pitching all five innings with six strikeouts and three walks. She allowed one earned run on four hits.
Khloe Tolle took the loss after allowing 12 earned runs on 17 hits with three strikeouts and seven walked batters.
Both teams return to action on Wednesday, April 5.
SCC travels to Richland (0-0), while Scott City host Oak Ridge (0-2).
