Jackson High School graduate Rachel Kahle continued her strong indoor season as the Southeast Missouri State track and field teams competed at the Husker Invitational over the weekend.

Kahle, a senior, was third in the 60 meters (7.66 seconds) and had the fifth-fastest time in the 200 preliminaries (24.98) during the meet hosted by the University of Nebraska.

Jerika Lewis was seventh in the 400 (56.95) and Shemeika Brewer placed eighth in the triple jump (38 feet, 9 3/4 inches).

Jason Lumpkin led Southeast's men, placing fourth in the 5,000 (15:05.30).

Brandon Colbert was fifth in the shot put (56-2 1/2) and weight throw (62-3 3/4).

Southeast competes this weekend at Illinois State.

Gymnasts second

The Southeast gymnastics team finished second during Saturday's triangular meet at Texas Woman's University.

Host TWU won with a score of 194.150, followed by Southeast (192.475) and Centenary (190.625).

Southeast (1-5) captured two events as senior Brianna Gaddie was first on vault (9.875) and sophomore Taylor Westrick tied for first on beam (9.800).

Gaddie tied her career high on vault with a score that ranks sixth all-time at Southeast.

Gaddie was also fourth on floor (9.800) and tied for fifth on beam (9.650).

Senior Christina Sundgren tied for second on bars (9.800), sophomore Sarah Billhart was third on beam (career-high 9.750) and sophomore Emma Garrett tied for fourth on vault (career-high 9.775).

Westrick placed third all-around (38.175) and Sundgren was fourth (37.975).

The Redhawks host Illinois State at 7 p.m. Friday.

Tennis loses 5-2

The Southeast women's tennis squad fell to 0-3 with Saturday's 5-2 loss to Bradley in the Redhawks' season opener played indoors at the Class Act Family Fitness Center.

Sophomore Nikole Novikova improved her singles record to 2-1 by beating Nicole Miller 6-2, 6-3 at the No. 1 spot.

Freshman Lauren Schaper picked up her first career victory, downing Brigitte Graf 6-2, 6-2 at No. 5 singles.

Southeast lost the double point but the Redhawks' No. 3 squad of Schaper and junior Sarah Pettigrew prevailed 8-5.

The Redhawks continue a four-match homestand Feb. 19 with their Ohio Valley Conference opener against Morehead State.
